Matt T. Evans (saxophone) is currently a teaching assistant at the Eastman School of Music where he is pursuing a DMA in Saxophone Performance and Literature as a student of Chien-Kwan Lin. Previously, Matt completed his MM and BM in Saxophone Performance at the Indiana University Jacob’s School of Music as a student of Otis Murphy. Matt garnered several accolades as a student at IU including winning second prize in the annual Woodwind Concerto Competition, winning a prize in the annual Travel Grant Competition which subsequently allowed him to attend the Aeolus International Competition for Wind Instruments in Düsseldorf, Germany, and he also earned a Performer’s Certificate, the highest performance distinction awarded at the school. Matt has earned prizes in several performance competitions including second prize in the Lake Shore Wind Ensemble Young Artist Competition, third prize in the Arizona University Recordings Classical Saxophone Competition, and he has also participated as a finalist in the Music Teacher’s National Association Young Artist Competition. Matt has been featured as a guest soloist with the Indianapolis Youth Wind Ensemble and the Kokomo Park Band of Kokomo, IN. In demand as a clinician, Matt has presented solo recitals and master classes throughout the United States.

Also active in the saxophone quartet medium, Matt is tenor saxophonist with the Zzyzx Quartet, which formed in 2007. Zzyzx has gained high regard after performances in the 2010 and 2008 North American Saxophone Alliance Biennial Conferences, the 2009 Navy Band Saxophone Symposium, the World Saxophone Congress XV in Bangkok, Thailand, as well as numerous recitals and master classes across the United States. Zzyzx also won second prize in the inaugural North American Saxophone Alliance Saxophone Quartet Competition and participated as a finalist in the Plowman Chamber Music Competition. Zzyzx will release its first CD in November 2010.
